Elaine Williamson

Elaine Williamson studied at the universities of Birmingham, Poitiers (Centre d’études supérieures de civilisation médiévale) and Paris. She taught at the university of Paris IV-Sorbonne before joining ULIP, where she was head of the Department of French Studies from 1978 to 2005. Her research has centred on textual genetics and on the relations between art, literature and politics. She has devoted most of her writing to the publication and genetic criticism of previously unpublished manuscripts by Stendhal and Dominique Vivant Denon.
